5 out of 5 stars Mr Blackmore does good!   July 29, 2008
WOW what an album. This was my first proper introduction to the mighty works of Mr Blackmore esq. I had heard 'Since You've Been Gone' on TOTP and decided to buy it as a single and then to buy an album, fortunately I picked up this one. To say I received a bit of a shock is an understatement, I was blown away and I still am when I listen to it now. Mr Blackmore is generally renouned for not putting up with anything other than the best when it come to side men and this can clearly be heard on this album. Though he did in fact return to the studio and re-record all the bass tracks himself, having been unhappy with the origonals.

The selection of songs is strong and diverse, the contrast in styles from 'Gates of Babylon' to 'Rainbow Eyes' is a true testament to the abilities of Mr Blackmore.

With the added clarity of being digitally remastered this really is an album to be cherished and enjoyed.

This is the only album in my entire rock/metal collection to which I give 10 out of 10.

5 out of 5 stars Rising doesnt rise enough   July 23, 2007
This IS Rainbows finest moment, no doubt. Love every song and it contains my favourite song (and registered most played on my i-tunes by a long chalk), Kill the King. Every song is a classic and as a whole the album is just begging for the listener to crank up the volume and blast it out. Dio at his absolute best.

5 out of 5 stars Dio's Farewell   July 11, 2007
This is an epic album, a little darker than Rising, but just as enjoyable all the same, packed full of hard driving rock songs, amazing guitar and vocals, there's not a weak track on it..The guitar solo on Gates Of Babylon is unbelievable..Rainbow Eyes is a ballad but a bloody good one.Add this to your collection , you'll be glad you did.

5 out of 5 stars the best of the best   November 27, 2006

Why can't they do this now-a-days? Why must modern rock pale in comparison to this masterclass of how to really rock'n'roll? The opening title track is just a blistering introduction to the album and an all out feel good record. The highlight, though, has to be "Gates Of Babylon," a simply amazing song from start to finish. A slow melodic start kicks into amazing vocals from Ronnie James Dio and an amazing solo from Ritchie Blackmore, quite possibly the best ever. The ending track itself is a slower affair, incorperating many instruments and displaying the amazing vocal range of Dio. In my view, a quite brilliant album, certainly one of the all time greats and a certainty for any rock fans collections. Buy this, and you won't be disapointed. 5/5
