If time is the true test, then Guns N' Roses' Greatest Hits confirms that they really were one of the greatest rock & roll bands in the world. While, in retrospect, fellow graduates of the class of 1987 are about as cool as poodle perms and spandex, the LA bad boys still rock like gods. Listening to the sun-drenched chords of "Paradise City" and the ensuing stadium-sized swagger is enough to make wearing leather trousers and bandanas seem like a good idea. Of course, it helped that for them sex, drugs and rock & roll was a way of life, not a fashion statement. As Axl Rose wails "I wanna watch you bleed" on "Welcome to the Jungle", like a chain-smoking lunatic possessed, it's hard not to believe he meant it. Yet equally, it was his surprisingly poetic nature that made genuinely touching love songs of "Patience" and "Sweet Child of Mine". Though none of their subsequent albums matched the drug-crazed genius of Appetite for Destruction, they did, as the Greatest Hits reminds, have their moments. From the bloated Use Your Illusion I & II came ultimate rock ballads "Don't Cry" and "November Rain", along with the primal rage that was "You Could Be Mine". And while the covers of the The Spaghetti Incident were largely forgettable, the fact that their final single was a seedy sneer through the Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" seems spectacularly fitting. --Dan Gennoe

 Best selling songs? Maybe but best songs? No.... December 2, 2008
First off I'm 14 and have all the GN'R albums (including Spag Incident, ChiDem and Unplugged 1993 (which you will not find, anywhere).
Just don't bother buying this, I haven't but know all the songs and come on! Mr Brownstone! Rocket Queen! Nightrain! You gotta have Nightrain, Don't Damn Me, Locomotive, Estranged, Reckless Life, Pretty Tied Up, in fact just go out and buy Appetite and Lies, if you like them get the UYI double set, if Slash, Axl and Duff all tried to stop it being released then you know it's an embarrassment.
It is good Ain't It Fun made it though, so Slashy haha.
It's no Appetite... October 7, 2008
If you are new to the world of Guns N' Roses I urge you to go and pick up Appetite for Destruction and play the hell out of it. This is a good CD if perhaps you just want a mix CD for the car or whatever, but there is less of their groundbreaking debut album on here then I would have liked. Songs like Rocket Queen especially deserves a spot on this CD.
 Excellent Companion Set to the 1st Album August 27, 2008
This is an excellent set collecting together in a convenient single disk the best of G'n'R. But if you want an introduction to the band you should purchase the 1st album no question as its one of the greatest rock albums of all time. What this Greatest Hits collection does is bring together all the best bits from the other 4 albums plus the odd single. There are only 3 'taster' tracks from the first album here so its no hardship to buy the 1st album and this one together (especially as the former is so inexpensive). That's why this is the perfect companion set to the first album. If you are still hungry after that then dive into the others. No serious fan of hard rock, or for that matter any fan of contemporary music, can afford not to have a healthy selection of G'n'R in their collection.
Irrelevant and pointless, here's why.... June 30, 2008
Now I am a massive Guns `n' Roses fan and have been since about the age of 10 when I first heard Paradise City, I then went and got all of their albums from my local music store. Now the problem with this CD isn't the quality of the songs, tracks 1-9 and track 11 are fantastic, but...
1) Irrelevant because it isn't even a greatest hits. Some of the tracks are extremely poor and have no place here, for example `Since I Don't Have You', `Ain't it Fun', `Sympathy for the Devil' and `Live and let Die'. Now although these songs are good when you consider some of the songs not included on this so called greatest his such as `Estranged', `Breakdown', `Rocket Queen', `Don't Damn Me' and `Dead Horse' the songs included have no place on this CD.
2) Pointless because Guns `n' Roses only have 4 studio albums (one being a cover album, which isn't worth buying) and 1 mini album (Lies), and so therefore you are much better off just getting all these albums instead especially considering you can purchase them quite cheaply if you shop around and by doing this you will get all of their greatest songs.

6) Civil War- 9.9/10 (Great lyrics and fantastic guitar melodies)
7) You Could be Mine- 10/10 (Great lyrics and fantastic guitar melodies)
8) Don't Cry- 10/10 (Beautiful lyrics and great guitar solo)
9) November Rain- 10/10 (Best song ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
10) Live and Let Die- 8.2/10 (Better than original but not worthy of being here)
11) Yesterday's- 8.7/10 (Good lyrics and nice funky beat)
12) Ain't it Fun- 8.4/10 (I like the attitude in the lyrics and the guitar is great as ever, but GNR have much better songs)
13) Since I Don't Have You- 4.5/10 (Decent guitar solo but that's it)
14) Sympathy for the Devil- 3/10 (Better than original but still not great)
Now although this is an amazing CD for the reasons I have already given above this is not worth buying, for a start `Estranged' isn't even here. Listen to this song and explain how Sympathy for the Devil or Since I Don't Have You are better, then you'll see my point about poor song choices. And aside from `Estranged' there are half a dozen other songs that should be on this disc and aren't. Although the rest of the songs make this 4 star album (1 star knocked off for tracks 10, 12, 13 and 14) don't bother getting this just buy the following albums.

This was originally only released to whip up an interest in Guns `n' Roses again as at the time `Chinese Democracy' was supposed to get released, however suffered a delay as has happened many times now.

This is my first album from Guns and Roses and I love it!
Every track on here is one in which you can easily find yourself playing again and again!
Although I like every song on this CD, my personal favorites are the legendary "Sweet Child Of Mine" and "You Could Be Mine".
You really couldn't ask for a better G and R greatest hits CD than this, it's brilliant rock music!
A solid overview of the band and a superb introduction to a newbie fan!
