5 out of 5 stars Another promising taster from the new album   August 5, 2008

So, with the third single from the new album we are treated to another energetic song, packing a catchy chorus and some nice guitar work combining to create something that like the previous two singles sounds at once both like the old Cure we all fell in love with while re-invigorating it with a freshness that promises the band most definitely still has it. Everything is well produced and Sleep When I'm Dead highlights a slightly more melancholy, atmospheric sound, providing an interesting contrast to the more clean-cut punchy nature of The Only One and Freakshow.

B-side Down Under is perhaps even more reminscent of the 'classic' Cure sound, showcasing a cohesiveness to the band's new material. These single releases marking the countdown to the new album have really caught my attention - being a massive fan of the Cure I has been looking forward to the new material for ages and now it has arrived I must confess, it more than lives up to my expectations.

5 out of 5 stars Catchy and energetic song!   July 24, 2008

Well, I bought this single during my stay in Germany (It's a little bit hard to find new Cure singles in Moscow). I loved the live version of Sleep When I'm Dead dearly, of all new songs it was my favourite (after A Boy I never Knew and Underneath the Stars, of course!). To be honest, I needed some time to get used to the studio recording of the song, at first I was shocked how different it turned out... But now I can say I love this single mix as much! SWID live was raw and punky, while mix 13 offers more dreamy, transparent mood, with all kinds of interesting sounds. The lyrics are also great - sometimes ironic and even sarcastic in the unique Smith's way.

The b-side, Down Under, reminds me of the Glove, especially of All Around Us the Mermaids Sang - Down Under has the similar sea feeling, stressed by Robert Smith's vocals, enwrapped in the airy, otherworldly melody. It matches the a-side very well. I'll give it 5 out of 5!

PS: To all who whines that Cure's fire is "almost out" and "there's nothing left to burn": If you don't love new Cure's stuff, if the Cure is not your band anymore, why can't you leave them alone and find you another band you CAN love?

1 out of 5 stars Try harder or give up and go away Smithy Boy & Co.   July 20, 2008

After having followed The Cure since seeing them on the Pornography tour in 1982, the latest releases can only be described as the most dismal nonsense ever released. Here we have yet another single to add to the last 2 uninspired releases, all 3 now only serve to confirm that The Cure are band that has lost it's way, has no idea in which direction they are going in and seem to find it worthwhile to release drivel just to keep insulting their fanbase. Perhaps they need the money to ensure that the pension contributions are being paid? Who knows? But the last releases are simply shocking. The Cure now seem to rely more on their cult status to keep them going as the standard of songwriting is now at such a purile level that it is embarassing. It is stunningly clear that Robert Smith had writers block when recording these tracks. Uniunspired, boring, re-hashed rubbish is what this can only be described as.

I thought that I would never say it but it really time that Robert Smith & Co realise that they have their time and it's time to stop inflicting this vomitable rubbish on us. This release adds nothing to The Cure's repertoire and only serves as a confirmation that they should had stopped after Bloodflowers was released. The only cure left for The Cure is to let themselves be put down. It seems the only humanitarian thing left to do to them.

Boat number 13, please come in, your time is up.

This track is just excellent and everything I love about The Cure great music and excellent lyrics hopint the track maybe extended on album and along with Freakshow making me really excited about the new upcoming album. This is one of those great Cure tracks and played live would be fantastic and almost 4 minutes long so back improvment on Freakshow. Real bonus is Down Under is my favourite 2nd track so far from the mix 13 singles.
