Thumbs up for East Yorkshire August 2, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I really like the album title, it is really rather unusual as to look at the album, if you did not know the music, you might imagine it is probably a collection of pub songs. Well it certainly is not, but it is the first time I have heard a song that includes lyrics about Tax Returns in 'First People on Earth'. The lyrics for all the songs are up to the usual David Rotheray standard, lots of them and very tongue in cheek. I suppose it would have to be a Yorkshireman who would write such down to earth lyrics. The singers, are all excellent, with a wider variety of vocalists than the last 2 albums with Mary Coughlan on 'The Driver' and Eleanor McEvoy on 'Lover's Chapel'. This is certainly an album to sit and listen to carefully if you want to get the most out of it, lots of variety and some great tunes.
