A great box set October 3, 2006 I did the opposite to what advice someone would give when trying out new music or a new band and immediatley purchased the box set on only knowing and hearing 3 songs, Junkie,Free bird & he's alive. Usually i am cautious, but i thought what the hell, go for it, and i am glad i did the box set is superb and music outstanding, great rock music with great well constructed tunes and lyrics and the group rock. A well deserved 5 stars for music alone.

If you're new to Lynyrd Skynyrd this is not the place to start, let's say that up front. If, like me, you were a dedicated follower all the way to the end this becomes an essential set to own. What makes it special is the way you can chart the progress of the band from something that sounds little more than a bunch of friends jamming in the garage to one of the most accomplished and just downright enjoyable rock acts of the seventies. Even in the early days you can tell they had a certain spark but who would have guessed that the simple ballad "Freebird" presented here would have evolved into the anthem that it finally became. Along with the music there's a useful booklet which if not the most authoratitive history of the band available at least provides the necessary background to the recordings.
