| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Leona Louise Lewis is something of an anomaly. Not only is she pretty and endowed with a wonderfully elastic (four-octave) vocal range--she's also a committed vegetarian and one of the few X Factor/TV talent show winners not to immediately try to capitalise on her success with an album of weak covers. Instead, her mentor Simon Cowell (and team) have coaxed Lewis into the studio with some of America's biggest talents--Dallas Austin, Jam & Lewis--and come up with an album of weak originals. You couldn't exactly call "Spirit" a bad album. It carries memorable melodies, some classic song-writing and, of course, Lewis' seriously potent voice (she's been compared to Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey already). But what the album lacks is personality. Songs like "Bleeding Love" (produced by Ryan Tedder and Jesse McCartney) are technically flawless, but you're left thinking `is this all the sass and sparkle a bonafide Hackney gal can muster?' "The Best You Never Had", the Ne-Yo produced "I'm You" and many other songs here follow this play-it-safe formula, while the album's ballads--"Footprints in the Sand", for example--are so bland even Whitney and Mariah would wince. Still, there's no doubt Lewis is a real talent. Perhaps if she ditches the overpaid `superstar' producers next time and makes the album she wants to make, we might finally hear some of her real `spirit'. --Danny McKenna

Hope her next album is filled with the best of this one November 30, 2008 I've loved Leona since seeing her in the auditions in the Xfactor and truly think she has one of the best voices we've heard for a long time. I was anxiously waiting to hear her new album, especially after the amazing track that was 'Bleeding Love', but unfortunately i think the album comes a little short. Don't get me wrong, when the songs were right the album was awesome, and there are about 5 or 6 brilliant songs on here including Bleeding Love, Better in Time and Homeless. I just hope that in her next album, every track is amazing, because in this album there are too many naff songs. Lets hope that her AMAZING cover of Snow Patrol's Run is a sign of things to come.
Wow! A great album from an incredibly talented girl! August 15, 2008 This album seems to be one which you either love or hate. Personally, I love it! Whereas some people feel that after a year's wait, this does not live up to the hype, I would definitely disagree. It is very rare that I find an album where I love every single track, but this is it. The main problem for Leona is that she went through the x-factor singing flawless renditions of some of the world's best known and best loved songs. Unfortunately, therefore, she was almost expected to produce an album of tracks which could rival these songs. And there is barely ever an album, no matter how great the artist, that contains nothing but classics. Lets be honest, though, Leona is the X-Factor's most deserved winner and is seriously talented. This indeed has some superb tracks and her singing is stunning. But, despite some up-tempo moments, it's definitely a very soulful album that makes use of her incredible voice so keep this in mind! To sum it up, wow!
Don't believe the hype August 8, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I didn't actually pay good money for this, I was given it by a friend, and she couldn't stand it either. This is just another warbling songstress in the style of Houston or Carey, no doubt hyped to death by Simon Cowell. Anyway the good news is we made a decent return on it at a car boot sale, ear plugs for the buyer were not provided.

BRILANT ALBUM FROM A BRILLANT TALENT July 5, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
THIS ALBUM IS TIGHT DON'T KNOW WHY SHE HAD TO DO HER ALBUM IN AMERICA THOUGH. RIGHT FIRST OFF: Bleeding love- Loved this song from first time i heard it Whatever it takes- Brillant song Homeless-Really shows off her vocal talent Better in time-brillant song but getting a bit bored of it now Yesterday-one of my favourite tracks on the album Take a bow- THIS NEEDS TO BE A SINGLE A BRILLANT TRACK EVEN MY DAD LIKES THIS AND HE DOESN'T LIKE RNB AND HE IS 47 I will be- Did anyone know that avril lavienge wrote this song, not one of my favorites but still a great song Angel-Brillant slow ballad for all the lovers Here i am- Again really shows off her vocal talent I'M you- This song was written and co-produced by ne-yo, another brillant track, ne-yo writes fantasic songs The best you never had- a great song really catchy The first time i ever saw your face-This is a cover version but i don't know who done the origional, really shows off her vocals. This song gives me goosebumps Footprints in the sand- very emotional ballad A moment like this-good song. YOU NEED THIS ABLUM BECAUSE UNLIKE OTHER AMERICAN ARTISTS SHE HAS WRITTEN 12/14 SONGS AND SHE HAS A BRILLANT VOICE. PEOPLE NEED TO STOP COMPARING HER TO MARIAH CAREY, EVEN THOUGH I LOVE MARIAH CAREY, I THINK LEONA LEWIS IS A TALENT IN HER OWN RIGHT.
