Amazon.co.uk Review One of the most striking debut albums ever released, this disc instantly established Chapman as a musical force, and with good reason. Immediacy, integrity of purpose and unqualified artistry are apparent in nearly every song. And while "Fast Cars" remains Chapman's best-known work, "Talkin' Bout a Revolution" is that rarest breed: a song which is both topical and timeless. Any exploration into Chapman's work should begin with this at times stunning effort; it is a disc of remarkable uniformity and clarity that Chapman has yet to improve on. --Wayne Pernu

Timeless December 1, 2008 I still remember the moment I first saw and heard Tracy Chapman play "Talkin' About A Revolution" at the Nelson Mandela Concert in London in 1988. I was 16 at the time and it stopped me dead in my tracks and for the first time made me think about the wider world outside my own limited horizons. This song still sends a shiver down my spine just as it did 20 years ago. Chapman's debut album, from which the song comes, is timeless and like an expensive wine seems to mature as each year passes. Every song is outstanding from the heartfelt social consciousness of songs such as Revolution and "Mountain O'Things" to the wistful "Fast Car" and assertive "For My Lover". In "Baby Can I Hold You" she crafts one of the most tender and introspective love songs ever. I envy anyone that is about to discover this album. Thought provoking lyrics, heartfelt delivery and gorgeous acoustic guitar playing. Chapman's output since has remained of a very high standard but I think in this record she touched a generation coming out of 80's naked self interest and starting to want more and she does so in an achingly beautiful way.
Simply a masterpiece October 17, 2008 Just to say that i own it on LP and whenever i play this alboum i can't stop the tears from my eyes.I'm 43,father of two children but this music turns me into a kid that has lost it's most beloved toy...Simply brilliant!
file under classic July 16, 2008 a wonderful album that is as captivating now as it was twenty years ago. tracy took 5 years to write the eleven tracks on this album and the depth of emotion and artistic beauty she created make for a timeless album can only be put into the category of classic.
A Classic July 1, 2008 I'll keep this short and simple. This is one of the greatet records of music ever created, of any genre. An absolutley suberb, unique voice which touchs your heart. As well as a brilliant voice, Chapman is also a world-class lyricist, singing about important issues, not just the false lovey/sex nonsense released by most of todays musicians. Buy the album, you won't regret it.
A Spritual CD February 24, 2007 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a truly great album and I love it. The songs arouse all kinds of emotions and from the beginning (Talking bout a revolution) to the end (For you) takes you on a musical journey that will leave you wanting more. The lyrics are written in the package and in several languages as well. My brother and sister both have this CD and they love it. My only slight criticism is of the song (behind the wall) which is an a cappella, and (If not now) which is way way too short. This album and its contents transcend time and if you are a true music lover, then you need to buy it, well worth more that the money. Thanks a lot Tracy.
