fantastic compelation-amazing voice June 1, 2008 the only greatest hits album that i find to be better than Madge's immaculate collection(Madonna)...i love the songs on here and it had me dancing around the house with joy...AMAZING!!! buy this album now it features powerful ballads and genuinely fabulous pop/rock songs...i love it as will you.
A Timeless And Powerful Greatest Hits Album With The Wow Factor. May 28, 2008 This album is defiantly one of the best Cyndi Lauper albums to own, as it includes the smash hit highlights from her heyday, primarily the 80's, this album sums up Cyndi Lauper perfectly, all the songs on this album are rock solid, and i guarantee there will be no need to skip tracks, one of the best greatest hits albums around.
The songs that stood out the most for me were `Money Changes Everything', here we see Cyndi Lauper the rocker an amazing vocal performance, same can be said for the amazing opening track `I'm Gonna Be Strong', we'll never know how the so called `pop princess' could reach heights like that, that's an incredible vocal range, `I Drove All Night' very good, and in my opinion just as well done as Celine's later version from the `One Heart' album, `True Colours' a great ballad never forgotten, `Time After Time', again another ballad and highlight from the album, `All Thorough The Night' I thought this was very very good one of my top favourites, great driving song,`Change Of Heart' oozes 80's pop, never the less very well done up-tempo song, `She Bop' still 80's pop, but it has a techno space feel to it, and this was reflected later on when i saw the music video for it, and finally `The World Is Stone' great song, i believe there's also a French version of this song `Le Monde Est Stone', by Celine Dion.
This is one of the definitive Cyndi Lauper albums to own, because its perfect for die-hard fans as well as people who are being introduced to her, it covers many moods as well as a few genres, and Cyndi Lauper's voice is amazing and unique throughout, Cyndi is truly one of a kind, a timeless classic i would defiantly recommend.
My first of many... March 18, 2006 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I've just come across this CD again, after going to look at the new stuff here and I thought perhaps it might bare reviewing. I write my first novel with the help of this CD and others. A powerful voice full of energy, Cyndi has been one of my most enjoyed vocalists. Not too caught up in herself or pop startdom she has continued to evolve her own form of pop and to this end I have come back full circle. Heady beats and tracks that give a full expression of her vocal range and talent - from the nostalgic 'Sally's pigeons' to 'I drove all night'it is an album I never have to skip a track on. The two mixes of 'Girls just wanna have fun' don't clash either, you will appreciate them both as being very different whilst holding the spark that has remained in all of her work. It's a must have album - I have had to replace mine three times now from use. Go girl!
Sweet and angelic she ain't, brilliant she is! March 4, 2003 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I refer to the picture on this album - she looks beautifully evil. However, that's part of her wonderful charm. I love the picture. She has massive talent - she sings with awesome power ("I'm Gonna Be Strong") and with a sweet, angelic touch ("Sally's Pidgeons") and all points in between.Lots of great tracks and a variety of styles. I still think she is underrated - but brilliant. We should cherish her forever.
Consistently good nostalgia trip May 31, 2002 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
This solidly entertaining set charts Cyndi Lauper's career from it's sparky novelty song beginnings through her adult contemporary/soft rock period, to her most recent forays into world beat.In 1984, you could have been forgiven for thinking that Lauper would turn out to be another one-hit-wonder a la Toni Basil, or even a rival for Madonna's then-burgeoning audience. How wrong you'd have been though! The collection leans heavily on her first two solo albums (also her most commercially successful) so you get the expected "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" and "She Bop", as well as sensitive ballads like "True Colors" and "Time After Time". Although her commercial star began to fade in the late '80s, her music continued to develop. "I Drove All Night" is AOR at the top of its game, sung with a sensual urgency that even Roy Orbison couldn't hope to capture. "Who Let In The Rain" is a touching adult contemporary ballad filled with aching loss. "Sally's Pigeons" is a surprising and disturbing account of a disastrous teenage abortion. This is precisely why this collection is a winner. Few people got a chance to hear her later records, and they get to hear the highlights of those here together with the proven hits. One can always argue about the track list on a "best of" like this. There were some hits and important album cuts that would have fitted in well here ("When U Were Mine", "My First Night Without You", "The Goonies R Good Enough"), but with a collection this entertaining, who's arguing?
