Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Heralded in the UK by an ultra-cool remix by JXL, Elvis: 30 #1 Hits is one of the most succinct packages of Presley's best work ever released. Based on the idea of the Beatles 1 album, this compilation includes all 31 Elvis singles that have been number one in either the US or the UK.

Set in roughly chronological order, the collection begins with his first hit, the swaggering "Heartbreak Hotel". Despite digital remastering it still sounds nearly half a century old when compared to his most recent (and posthumous) hit "A Little Less Conversation", but it remains a timeless classic for new generations to discover. Most people--young or old--will know of or be able to hum a few bars from most of the songs here. Many a karaoke singer will have had a stab at "Love Me Tender" or "Suspicious Minds"; others will have heard a family member brutally crooning their way through "Are You Lonesome Tonight?" or "It's Now or Never".

Twenty-five years after Elvis's untimely death, younger generations have become accustomed to the image of Presley as a tragic icon of comedy excess, remembering him for garish jump-suits, trademark shades and a thick black quiff. Elvis: 30 #1 Hits will remind many that he was the King for a very good reason. --David Trueman

5 out of 5 stars grsat collection   August 16, 2008
with such a mass of material to choose from,it is difficult for any record label to put together a 'good' collection that shows the entire range of Elvis' great songs but this goes a long way toward it. Well worth the place on the shelf.

5 out of 5 stars The only 'ONE'   April 20, 2008
Here on 'one' cd are most of Elvis Presleys greatest hits. Starting with Heartbreak Hotel we get the early rock 'n roll hits. Jailhouse Rock, All Shook Up, Hound Dog etc etc. Next we move onto Elvis's change in style as he leaves the army and we get a 'new' Elvis. It's Now Or Never, Surrender, Are You Lonesome Tonight plus the movie hits of Wooden Heart, Can't help Falling In Love, Return To Sender. And the early 60's had Elvis releasing pure pop gems like 'His Latest Flame, Good Luck Charm' & She's Not You.
Then, as everyone believed Elvis would never have another #1 we get the mid 60's #1 hit 'Crying In The Chapel'. To round of this great Cd Elvis proves he can still reach the top of the charts as he does so with more gems. Suspicious Minds, Wonder Of You, & Burnin' Love to name a few. And to round of the #1's on the Cd 'A Little Less Conversation (Remix).
It's a pity time available on this 'ONE' Cd did not allow space for the other #1's like 'I Want You, I Need You, I love You, Little Sister, Rock a Hula Baby, I Need Your Love Tonight, I Got Stung, and Party to name a few.
So if you like to listen to pop music from the 50's right into the 2000's this Cd is a must.

4 out of 5 stars Elvis is number one   March 21, 2007

This is the collection of Elvis Presley's biggest hits- not his best songs, though "Heartbreak Hotel", "Hound Dog", "Don't Be cruel", "Can't Help Falling in Love", "In the Ghetto" and "Suspicious Minds" can be said without any doubt to be among his very finest songs. And most of the songs on this record are true Presley classics and some of them ("A Big Hunk of Love) have not been previously given the attention they deserve. Here they are with a terrific remastered sound.
Often the problem with collections is, that they are not often very well balanced. Often most of the material seems a bit out of place. This one with it's given limitations to number one hits, still manages to work. Songs are presented in chronological order from oldest song to the newest. Usually it's brutal, but not in this one. The songs are pretty much about the emotion and energy of Elvis's vocals. So there certain feeling of continuity.
31 songs that with a one or two exeptions show the majesty of Elvis's talent. Without a doubt the most important figure in popular music. He had the voice, passion, talent and the looks to be worthy of the name "King".
So this is a good place to start. You get an overalla look of different periods of Elvis's musical career. From here you can start to look, which period is most to your taste or if you can take it all -or if you dislike the guy. The early Presley (though the sun sessions from 1954-55 are not presented here); "Heartbreak Hotel"etc, sixties romantic pop ballads; "Can't Help Fallin in Love" or more soulfull look of the late sixties "In the Ghetto", "Suspicious Minds". During the seventies Presley record sales went down qute a bit and not many number one there, so that's why the period is not well presented here, but "The Wonder of You" gives you a example what the Elvis in the seventies was all about. "Burning Love" with it's more rock'n roll sound was not what Elvis was interested about during that time.
Elvis could do it all. He could do a great rock tracks with figorious energy and also take a more sentimental aproach to love ballads and give alltogether great results.
Not everybody likes Elvis, but at least you own yourself a favour and consider him and listen to him with care. Because he was and still is, important.

And if you like this record, consider "2nd to None", "Tomorrow is a Long Time" and "Burning Love" collections. Also "on Stage" live recording is really good. There's so much great material to discover from Presley archives (also some really bad ones!), that can leave you sometimes wondering where go to...
