A cut above other choral music October 2, 2008 This stylized choral music is enchanting to listen to. It is apparent the musical arrangement for each track has been chosen with great care. The result is a vocal clarity that is very rare these days, without the elaborate intros that are so unecessary. I hope the choir can maintain this sound for some time, as sadly, boys get older, and well, we all know what happens then! Well done St Phillips Boys Choir! A beautiful selection sung to perfection!
Truly Angelic! March 27, 2004 18 out of 18 found this review helpful
If, like me, you have two sons and two grandsons, you will know that boys aged seven to fourteen are seldom angelic. Raising two generations of them provides undeniable proof of this. And yet, here is a CD that seems to belie my lifetime's (often painful!) experience. How, for example, could anything but a host of angels provide the sounds as beautiful as 'Panis Angelicus', as rhythmic as 'Adoramus Te', as beaty as 'Orinoco Flow' or as moving as 'One Voice'? Known these days as Libera, the St Philips Boys Choir provide a superb variety of songs ranging from favourite hymns to chart hits and perform every one with the sort of professionalism expected of more seasoned artists. Every track leaves the listener wanting more; a sort of musical addiction, if you will. Angellic indeed...but we can also add 'Magnificent', 'Breathtaking' and 'Sublime' to the list of adjectives. And as the disc was first released in 1993, it strikes me that some of the 'boys' will now have children of their own. Maybe they'll now have a different definition of the word 'Angellic'...
Angel Voices The St Phillips Boys Choir October 7, 2000 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
This is an excellent CD. I really loved the clarity of these boys. Unlike traditional boys choirs these boys sing a multitude of popular songs. I have always liked boy choirs and the voices of the St Phillips Boys choir are truly "Angel Voices". I recomend all three volumes of this choir as a valuble addition to you collections.
