Amazon.co.uk Review Look who became a star. Barbie comes to life in the computer-animated Barbie in the Nutcracker, taking the longtime-favorite doll into a new realm. The 76-minute tale is a slight variation on the traditional story based on Tchaikovsky's music. Instead of an open-ended dream, Barbie and her escort, the Nutcracker (soon to be Ken, natch), are on an adventurous quest. Along the way there are more creatures and derring-do than the original. The sole known voice talent, Tim Curry, has a good old time as the Mouse King, and the animated dancing is gracefully adapted from New York City Ballet members. A few clever characters, bright animation and wonderful music should entrance any Barbie fan from age three to nine. --Doug Thomas, Amazon.com

Our five year old loves this movie January 11, 2003 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
If you have young children who like ballet and Barbie, this is just the ticket for them. The animation is excellent and the music is very well chosen and executed. Our daughters were a bit apprehensive about the mouse at first !!! He's a very well portrayed character and a pretty nasty guy.
A very enjoyable tale for everyone. February 24, 2002 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I brought this video for my 3 yr old and she absolutely adores it! (Daddy & Mummy quite like it to). However, I do know a few 3 yr olds who were frightened of King Mouse on first viewing, therefore you should sit with them just in case. Tim Curry's voice is instantly recognisable to anyone who has seen The Rocky Horror Show and he is by far the most impressive of all the characters. Can be sickly sweet at times, but that's what little girls love. Need to watch it a few times to really enjoy it, especially Pimm, who comes out with some great one liners. Clear your room as all the girls seem to want to copy the ballet moves on every viewing.
Sugar plum duff January 19, 2002 8 out of 19 found this review helpful
Our three year old likes parts of this (especially the dancing) but my wife and I think she deserves better. With the exception of Tim Curry, the vocal performances are incredibly stilted. This is probably why our daughter tunes out of the bits without music and dancing. Don't get us wrong - we love Disney at it's best and can't get enough of quality fairy stories, but this poorly acted saccharine coated pile of sentimental simpering rubbish is short changing our little ones.
