Ben Taylor July 13, 2007 Like a lot of people, I'm a huge fan of JT, so took instant interest in his son. Ben doesn't sound exactly like his dad (there's a bit of Carly in there too), nor are his songs exactly like his dad's - put simply this is BT, not JT. But if you love JT, I think you'll at least like BT.
BT is generally more mellow and understated than his old man, at least on this album. It's good to chill out with. The nearest comparison I can think of is Jack Johnson.
Original and compelling April 5, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a treat for anybody disappointed by the likes of Jack Johnson or Findlay Brown, whose albums sound nice but are otherwise totally forgettable. Ben Taylor also sounds 'nice', but there's a much greater depth to his music that means you will keep on coming back and finding new things in it. It's a very original and imaginative album. The tunes and arrangements are pretty much all catchy and interesting and unexpected. There are little musical 'treats' hidden around the songs that you'll look forward to every time, and the whole album satisfies. Central to this is Ben's smooth voice and clever way with lyrics, and extremely attractive production. It's all so good, I can only imagine Ben Taylor will be around for some time to come.
Ben Taylor is THE Man March 19, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Flicking through radio stations I came across this soulfully smooth voice that of Ben Taylor and I was hooked. This album is definately not a disappointment, very easy to listen to and literally put it on once and your guaranteed to have it on repeat for days after. It's along the lines of Jack Johnson and Amos Lee, if you're a fan of those two Ben will win you over. His voice flows effortlessly throughtout the album, with great backing harmonies. Although "Nothing I can do" was the first released single in the UK it was his song "Digest" which really hooked me. Each song is unique, it is not one of those albums you feel all the songs sound the same. Easy album to chill too perhaps with a nice glass of wine. I am sure this guy will be huge by this time next year.
outstanding Big S (Devon) February 8, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I bought this album at a recent live show on the strength of an outstanding performance that left me wanting more of the same. Ben taylor has moved on some what since embarking on a solo career and is keeping the 'taylor family' dominance, of the singer song writer genre alive. I can't wait for the next installment. This album is a must for anyone that appreciates carefully crafted songs delivered with style. If your reading this Ben........"outstanding". If you like Ben and James, check out Livingston Taylor.
A gem! February 5, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Having been a long term James Taylor fan, I recently went to see Ben Taylor on his UK tour. I had never heard any of his music before, but thought his roots would surely mean that he would have something special to offer.I wasnt prepared for such an incredible voice. Yes... he does sound like his father, but I'd say Ben is softer and more mellow. Live, he is truely amazing, so on the basis of this I got this album from Amazon. Although he doesn't completely replicate that live acoustic sound on Another Run Around the Sun, its pretty close.
I haven't stopped playing this album since it fell through my letter box. It is a must for anyone who likes the singer songwriter genre. JT had better watch out. Move over Jack Johnson and goodbye Damien Rice(I still can't get over how bad that last album is!!) Buy this album, you will not regret it. It is a treat.
