Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
I'd never want to visit Destiny's Child's homes for the holidays, if their nonsensically named holiday album 8 Days of Christmas is any indication of what they've got under the tree. Chilly, forced and overdone, this mixed bag of modern classics, tarted-up traditional carols and a trio of tunes penned by Beyoncé Knowles doesn't conjure up a single warm-and-fuzzy image of chestnuts roasting on an open fire or Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Rather, it's just another forum to showcase the band's Gucci bag of vocal gymnastics and crass materialism. The Texas trio takes seasonal classics such as Irving Berlin's "White Christmas", "Silent Night" and "Little Drummer Boy" and embellishes them with its own trills and off-kilter harmonies, overwhelming the songs so that their simple beauty is totally obscured. "On the eighth day of Christmas, my baby gave to me, a pair of Chloe shades and a diamond belly ring," brags Knowles in the title song--which is a take-off on the "12 Days of Christmas"--without ever explaining why they loped off four days. In addition, the band are shamelessly self-indulgent throughout the dozen songs found here, taking untold liberties, such as renaming the "Carol of the Bells", "Opera Bells" and recasting "Silver Bells" into "Platinum Bells", to reflect their multi-platinum status. But the low point of the record is when Destiny's Child hawk their own Hasbro Toy manufactured dolls in the intro of "Platinum Bells": "Ladies remember long ago we asked Santa to give us Christmas Dolls? But this year the dolls are you and me under the tree". Humbug. --Jaan Uhelszki

........A copy of one of destiny's child's best cds!
Before i got this album i personally had no liking for christmas carols, they were to slow for my taste and didnt have any beat to them, then............Tada as if by magic this cd appeared and it jazzed christmas carols up for me. Destiny's child's original approach to christmas carols finally gave them the beat they needed, now im singing them all year round! A definate 10/10 for this album. Well done beyonce, michelle and kelly you opened my eyes to the true meaning of christmas.......the great music!
If your a fan of destiny's child you will love this album, how ever if your not......you will still love this album. I recomend it to anyone

4 out of 5 stars Destiny Child Does Christmas   June 2, 2005
I brought the album for a BIG Destinys Child fan for Christmas, and personally found the R'n'B versions of the Christmas classics refreshing in a world where about anyone can get a Christmas cover version in the charts, thus taking the originality out of the Christmas classics that we all know and love. Saying that, i enjoyed the Destinys Child version of the songs with Beyonce Knowles unique voice and their combined harmonys making it great.

3 out of 5 stars IT'S A CHRISTMAS ALBUM - WHAT DO YOU EXPECT??   April 29, 2003

Now, there have been people complaining loads about this album. "It's nowhere near as good as The Writing's On The Wall"! Well, no it isn't, but then this is a Christmas album, and every multi-platinum artist has done one - Mariah, Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton - so Destiny's Child have given it a go.
Some of the songs are, in all fairness, quite bad, worthy of the skip button on the CD player! But then, it's all about the Christmas spirit, and these devoutly Christian girls sing about something they believe in.
'8 Days Of Christmas' is a great contemporary Christmas track, tearing away from the bore-fests that are 'let's all be happy and sing with sugar sweet voices about love' songs. And each girl gets their own track to sing on individually. At the end of the album, Solange (Beyonce's sister) has a track, 'The Proud Family', the theme from the Disney show which she sings. Yes, it is very clever marketing by Mr Mathew Knowles, but so what?
So to every fan of Destiny's Child out there, this is no masterpiece and it was never intended to be. It's just the girls havin' fun and doing their thing with the Christmas songs everyone knows.

I was once a HUGE Destiny's child fan and I once believed that every single song that they recorded would be brilliant. After my friend brought me this album for my christmas present last year, I expected it to be to be along the same lines of 'The writings on the wall' but it wasn't. It's so obvious that this album was made with as small a budget as possible to suck as much profit out of the huge Destiny's child fan-base as possible. I think it's really outrageous how Destiny's child's management can do this to their loyal fans!!! compared to 'The writings on the wall' (in my opinion Destiny's child's best album) this recording is a sham!! What happened to those songs that oozed with pure talent; those expertly produced songs created by the likes of Rodney Jerkins (Dark Child), Missy Elliott and Wyclef Jean. You simply can't compare any song on this album to the songs that in my opinon made Destiny's child where they are today like 'Say my name', 'No, no, no', 'Get on the Bus' and 'Independent women'! ---These songs were Spectacular!! unlike the cruddy cover versions of 'white christmas' and 'The proud Family' sung by Solange that was blatantly dumped on the album to make up the number of tracks on it!! If I could rate this album less than 1 star I would--it's that bad!!! The only song that is'nt that bad is the title track '8 days of christmas' but this song only seems good because of the other awful songs it has to share the cd with!! The title track '8 days of christmas' was used to promote the album but obviously Destiny's child's mangagement didn't even realise that '8 days of christmas' is'nt even as good as the worse songs on 'The writings on the wall' or even the 'Survivor' album!! What does that tell us about the rest of the album!!
