Amazon.co.uk Review
Despite the cover image of a Santa frying in an electric chair Christmas On Death Row isn't half as funny or perverted as you hope it might be. Death Row (now known as Tha Row) play it pretty much straight down the line. Guess's version of "White Christmas" is surprisingly traditional as is 6 Feet Deep's "Frosty The Snowman". In fact this album echoes heavily the Christmas specials put out in the 70s by groups and labels such as the Platters, James Brown and Motown. Christmas On Death Row was first made in 1997, after the death of Tupac and the exodus of major talent from the label (principally Dr Dre). It's left to Tha Dogg Pound and Snoop Dogg to provide original material and star quality, which they do to a certain extent on "Santa Claus Goes Straight To The Ghetto" and the bouncy "I Wish". However, don't expect to hear any of these cuts booming from radios, jeeps or clubs. No matter how hard they try, Death Row can't make Christmas hip(hop). In fact Tha Row is caught between two stools, trying to live up to their rep as gangsta rap's premier home while making a mint from the season of goodwill to all men. Unsurprisingly it just doesn't work. --Jake Barnes

2 out of 5 stars Ok   July 18, 2008
There are a couple of raps on here but most of it is En Vogue/Destinys Child type stuff. Not really what you want from a Death Row compilation.

2 out of 5 stars Not what i expected   May 31, 2004

being a huge death row fan, i expected hard lyrics, g funk beats and so on but i got a surprise, this is infact very traditional and not violent at all, infact the only raps on it are "santa claus goes straight to the ghetto" and "i wish" i wish is the best song on the album but im glad danny boy gets to show off his vocal talents on this album. not really my cup of tea but its not bad.

2 out of 5 stars This Cd isn't worth the money. Plane and simple.   December 16, 2001

I found that apart from the first track "Santa Claus Goes Straight To The Ghetto) by Snoop Doggy Dogg which was an average piece, that the remainder of the album was a load of cheaply padded tracks which either involved singing Xmas songs or soul an blues style music with some cheap rap added onto it. I found that this C.D on the whole was not good and despite the front cover the packaging was poor and had little imagination. This album is a let down and is not by any means Death Rows best work.

3 out of 5 stars not up to normal standards of death row   July 7, 2001
I love death row, but I was dissapointed with this cd to be honest. They just went from hardcore to a more "cheesy" orientated style for this album, which was very surprising. Still definately a must have for the ultimate death row addict!
