Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
From his inception as bubblegum-rapper the Fresh Prince in the late 80s, to his later incarnation as the blockbuster figurehead, Will Smith has shown an uncanny aptitude for refining the hip-hop sound of the moment into mostly excellent pop singles that balance family-friendly accessibility with witty pop nous. "Summertime" is probably Will Smith's finest moment--an evocative paean to the sunshine, a laconic Smith cruising the sun-baked streets rapping about "little boys messin' round with the girls playing double-dutch" like a U-rated Snoop Dogg. Never one to shy away from a spot of cross-media promotion, this compilation also includes "The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air"--the theme-tune to the US sitcom of the same name--as well as all the glitzy pop hits that fronted Smith's celluloid outings: the great "Men In Black", the good "Wild Wild West", and the frankly dodgy "Black Suits Comin". Curiously, the only notable omission is UK No.1 "Boom! Shake The Room"--the track recorded with DJ Jazzy Jeff that heralded the duo's second commercial wind. That complaint aside, however, a sturdy collection from this populist rap champion. --Louis Pattison

5 out of 5 stars Grab some Willy!   January 8, 2008
I love this album, and what a bargain it is! I think the most refreshing thing about it is that it carefully balances the ideas of early rap and 90's hip-hop - those being the smooth and 'meaningful' lyrics he's produced, and the clean break-beat production. This is something that has been lost in today's market, for now a 'rapper' rambles on about guns, girls, and how his dog died. Hip-hop hardly exsists of course, mainly being replaced by r'n'b in bars etc.
The album starts brilliantly with the great lyrics to G'irls Ain't Nothing But Trouble', which sets a tone for much of the album. Stand out tracks include the full version of the song from the program he starred in; The Fresh Prince of Bell Air, and one of my favourites for the summer which is Miami; the rhythm actually being sampled from another hip-hop song called I Can Do This by Monie Love (a Hed Kandi favourite!). Men I Black is a super cool song for in the car, while his remaining tracks obtain more of a modern feel.
Being so cheap, their is no excuse not to buy this album! Will Smith was a fun, friendly artist, and these songs remind me of great times when you could get away with odd hair styles and ultra-bright pants!

P.S apologies about the review title, I couldn't miss that opportunity!

4 out of 5 stars Big Will - what an artist!   November 27, 2007

This is a great listen. We start with the beginning with the immature songs like 'Paresnts just don't understand' and 'Girls Ain't Nothing But Trouble'. It's incredible to think that he began with this bubblegum rap and how he has seriously matured with his latest album 'Lost and found' which is a masterpiece. Will began with some fresh, fun tunes and amazingly there are even vocals from DJ Jazzy in here which I was surprised with! Will has changed hip hop forever and you can see that in here, he is just a remarkable songwriter. It's all clean sounding, no swearing and no violence; all straight up, friendly but meaningful rap. The best song on here has to be 'Men in black' - but that's to my tastes! From beginning to end, if you think you like Will Smith then you should definetly get this.
An important note is that this version comes with 3 extra tracks - Wild wild west, Nod ya head (remix) and Just the 2 of us - a little soppy for my liking but a nice surprise to have these 3 extras!
If you don't have it already then you should definetly get 'Lost and found' with the 2 released tracks Switch and Party starter and the unreleased track that was pondered for release, the incredible meaningful Tell me why. If you like Will's more immature sounds then buy his old albums, but if yopu like your music mature then purchase 'Lost and found'. You don't have to be a rap fan to like Will Smith because I know that I'm not - I'm just a Will fan! My musical tastes vary from Linkin Park to Elvis Presley, so you know that I just have great taste! Watever you do buy 'Lost and found' - the greatest hip hop album of all time - fresh, cvlean and incredibly meaningful - it changed my life. Will has changed my life through his music and his acting in my favourite movie - Men in black. Everything about the guy is so cool and heartfelt. He has changed my life - let him change yours!

If you have never heard of any of the songs on this album you must have been under a rock for a decade, and you missed so much!

The album is set chronologicaly and sets out the success of Will Smith's music career. From the first few songs we are treated to Will's early efforts at the rap game and it is a pleasent suprise that they are actually good! Although they may lack great substance they do tell a great story and 'Nightmare On My Street' is a must hear song of Will's.

Next we come to the two songs that made Will famous. Summertime (his big early 90's hit) and Fresh Prince Of Bel Air (taken from the show of the same name) and this is when the album really hits off. They are such catchy songs they will have you dancing round for ages!

The middle section of the album see's the best song from Will's mainstream album 'Big Willy Style' take the stage. Men In Black, Just Cruisin, Gettin Jiggy Wit It, 1000 Kisses and Miami make this an album that all homes should be with!

For the end of the album we are given three big songs from 'Willenium' and they are 'Freakin' It, Wild Wild West and Will 2K'. All these songs, especially Will 2K, will have you singing along for hours and will make you want more Will Smith albums.

From the first song to the last song (Just The Two Of Us) you will love this album, from the early days, to modern times, it charts Will's success story brilliantly.

BUY IT NOW!!!

5 out of 5 stars Will smith is the greatest   September 3, 2006

WOW what an album!!!! ive loved hip hop since i first heard vanilla ice in the early 90's and i own sum absolute classic hip hop albums now from reasonable doubt to illmatic but this is just something else will smith has got to be the best rapper of all time!! his flow is so fluent and smooth and where most other hip hop artists tend to rap about guns, hustling and money all the time,Big willy mixes it up and can just as easily rap about having a boogy in a night club but he raps in such a menacing way you have to take him seriously, when big willy takes the mic you know that hes got something to say and he says it all right, every will smith record on this album from gettin jiggy with it to miami takes you on a emotional journey, his voice so full of anger you really feel his lyrics more so than say Nas or even Pac, if your in to hip hop quite simply Big Willy is your man....

you cannot dislike this mans music he uses a simple rap style with such simple lyrics but this makes the song even more catchy as it makes it very easy for you to sing along and listening through this album you'll derfinatley remember all those summers you spent singin along with the catchy lyrics of one of the most succesful actors comedians and musicians of all time this is a must have album.
