Amazon.co.uk Review This, the third re-issue of Rise features in addition to the bonus tracks and CD-ROM videos of its predecessor, the smash hit single from Bridget Jones Diary, "Out of Reach". Gabrielle's career has demonstrated a remarkable longevity considering that after 1993s all-conquering "Dreams", she's seemed to cater for the few but the fickle city bohemians that have just discovered Massive Attack as "the next happening thing". It's not hard to see why, though, because Rise is ultra-slick, impeccably-produced soul-lite. What might come as a surprise is that in its own way, it's actually very good. A largely weepy album, much of Rise deals with the emotional fallout of a failed love-affair, but through its tears, songs like "Over You" and "When a Woman" offers a girls-against-the-world solace. But as a warm undercurrent, there's a parent-friendly theme to "Sunshine", dedicated to Gabrielle's son, that should see Rise lovingly working its way into a vast number of record collections. --Louis Pattison

Outstanding! May 16, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well, Gabrielle has done it again! She provided us with the album 'Find your way', with the likes of 'Dreams' (brilliant song), but this album has out won them all! My favourite song, has to be 'Out of Reach', which is currently out at this present time which is also on the recent album 'Rise'. This album works because Gabrielle has included soulful tunes, which some are upbeat (e.g. 'when a woman') or just one's that you can relax to. So, you can listen to the album whatever mood your in! I hope the day will never come when Gabrielle stops making music, because the day she does music wouldn't be music without Gabrielle. So, keep on rolling out those tunes!
lyrics so true to all our lives... February 18, 2001 This is a real mood making album from soulful ballads to up-beat cheerful numbers. The catchy When a Woman is a real 'drive time' sing along song. Gabrielle's lyrics are as true to life as ever. Everyone can identify an experience of their own that these songs could've been written about! If you haven't heard it, go out and buy it !
Pure excellence January 31, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Every music fan should have this album in their collection. It has something for everyone. It is amazing. Her voice is soulful. The songs are excellently written. Nothing but praise for the album. There isn't one song that isn't good.
What a brilliant album from Britains best soul singer ever! December 27, 2000 I bought the album "Rise" when it came out. I have always been a fan of Gabrielle's. I like her songs because some of them reflect on what i have been/gone through with friends and family, the songs such as "Should I Stay" and "Rise". Other songs are just great to listen to with such wonderful lyrics. She truly is a great singer and song writer, she has influenced me a lot. Even my three year old brother can't stop singing too "When A Woman"! Congratulations on such a great album, Gabrielle! ( She is great in concert too!)
Absolutely Brilliant!! November 4, 2000 Every song on this album is excellent. You're probably thinking that the record company have released the 4 good singles and the rest are rubbish, but it's not the case. There's some brilliant pop such as "Rise", "If You Love Me" and "Tell Me What You Dream". And now I see they've re-issued it with a new song and videos! Another reason to buy it! Whatever your taste in music is, you're guaranteed to love this!!!
