The Future December 1, 2008 Simply, this is a stunning piece of work. Very dark, very minimal but also very bright in places (lots of latin and tribal influences). Fantastic progressive album, forward looking and extremely cutting edge.

An extraordinary album. I read the reviews - I had heard of Danny Tenaglia but didn't know his work - and decided to risk it. I'm glad I did.
I like trance, I like some hard house and I always thought that I liked techno. I suppose this is techno, of a sort, but so pared down, so minimalist that it goes beyond a simple definition - 'techno' - to a different, experimental place. I suppose you might say 'Autechre' (Quaristice), but you might even say 'Neu!' or Steve Reich: Remixed, add a syncopated rock beat, African, Cuban; but such an open, almost chilling sound scape.
Yes, it's variable - from the stunning opening 'Indigo Bay' - perhaps it goes down, but never out. Grows again, the smooth, machine building rhythms of '3Tempo3', a few tracks later morphed into Latin moves, but still that cool, cool openness.
Yes, it does take some work - initially, there are one or two stand-out tracks, but give it time, give it a good sound system and hang in there - it's worth the effort.
No, it's not instant gratification; it's art.
WARNING - Master At Work ! October 18, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Heady stuff indeed and a welcome return Mr Tenaglia !
It feels like you've been away too long.
NYC : Twilo, Tunnel, Vinyl/Arc : Nineties through Noughties.
The Wolf was there with you from time to time.
Although a CD mix can't quite hope to capture the pure energy and magic of a live set 'Futurism' arrives just in time to remind us of the essential qualities that make you King of all those dark, dark beats.
Essential as in Pure Essence.
The album is a densely woven panoply of 28 well chosen, intellectually and viscerally satisfying tracks. The editing, seamless mixing and impeccable sound quality all bear the mark of a true Master at work.
Hard, therefore, to extricate highlights.
Bumpin' Ugly's 'Work Me' had my four paws tapping all at once.
CD Two opener, Fred Giannelli's 'Mid Life Crisis' is a thing of beauty.
The anthemic 'Birth' by Peter Horrevorts is truly uplifting.
So many treats. Trust me - Treat yourself !
Highly Recommended.
Sublime Masterpiece September 4, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an absolutely cracking album. Danny has crafted together a Gem of a mix - the constant quality of the tracks is mindblowing. The track 'Work Me' by Bumpin' Ugly is one of the best electrofunk tracks I have ever heard. He has seen the Future and it sounds fantastic. Get excited! Love it!
Perfect. Minimal, house, subtle, funky YES! August 13, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I can't believe how good this is. I don't usually write reviews but this deserves it! Music is evolving so rapidly it is losing it's edge on one perspective but on the other it is developing into deeper depths. This compilation captures DT's angle on this with his mixing skills and his access to exclusive music. It takes a minimal approach which is very appropriate for today's music scene. You can hear DT's style throughout (almost GU-esque) but on a very subtle level. Anyone who likes or liked DT, progressive or house music looking to get a feel for what it has evolved into and otherwise anyone now today into minimal stuff, this is essential. After a few listens it is seriously addictive. As far as a compilation is concerned, this is the first in a long time that has had such an effect where others have been disappointing! Dom and Roland (DnB) recent podcast noted that music today has lost its ability and allowance to take time, space and develop naturally, it is disappointing that often there is no room for creating the atmosphere that we once had in this field of sound.. what we grew to adore.. certainly what has created me!
This is amazing! Essential to any electronic music fan really! Trust me!
N.B. Patience required!
