A milestone March 20, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Breathtakingly brilliant, Madonna has proven her worth. Every song is brilliant yet I have never heard a sexier mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm as in Frozen! She has elevated herself from queen to the Empress of pop!
These tracks show why Madonna rocks !!! February 20, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ray Of Light - Fast pacy track, really nice.
Shanti/Ashtangi - Amystical and spiritual dance track, perfect, exotic and sexy !!! Also sounds like a funky Buddhist chant.I could pray to that!
Frozen - Very similar lyrics to Open Your Heart (Mmmmmm, if I could melt your heart Mmmmmm, we'd never be apart Mmmmmm, give yourself to me Mmmmmm, you hold the key) Open Your Heart has these lyrics (Open your heart to me, baby I hold the lock and you hold the key Open your heart to me, darlin' I'll give you love if you, you turn the key)
The Power Of Goodbye - Great Song with powerful lyrics;'Pain is a warning that something's wrong' I pray to God that it won't be long Do ya wanna go higher?
To Have And Not To Hold - Nice Song, worth a repeat value
Little Star - A very maternal track
Possibly Her Best Album Yet May 3, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After a four year gap since her last studio album, the R&B flavoured Bedtime Stories (1994), Madonna returned to the studios in 1998 and came up with some of her most stunning, artistic and compelling work. The album would go under the title, Ray Of Light and encapsulated a multitude of styles - Dance/Techno/Indie. The project would be produced by Madonna herself with the aid of Dance master, William Orbitt.
Ray Of Light (1998) opens with the hypnotic sounds of Drowned World/Substitute For Love. The track is mellow in it's content and shifts tempo midway through the recording. Madonnas vocal delivery is soft, sensual and warm.
Swim is another tempo shifting number that is utterly compelling whilst zooming in on the swirling psychedelic vibe is the fantastically upbeat, Ray Of Light. Madonnas voice is impeccably strong, seemingly delivering this with a vengenace. Ray Of Light became a monster dance-floor filler that remains as startling as it was on its origanal release.
There is a startling combination of Indie/Rock/Dance on the bizarre Candy Perfume Girl. Though not quite having the immediacy of some of the other recordings on here, still has significant musical merit.
More adventurous was the hypnotic, trance-like effect on the stark, Skin which contains vast undertones of red hot, pulsating dance and Madonnas performance sounds heavenly. Skin like most of the other recordings on here is hauntingly atmospheric and has such immediacy.
The album then swerves and steers back into a more commercial sound with the bouncy, upbeat, Nothing Really Matters which is utterly infectious and a guaranteed dance-floor filler.
One of the ultimate highlights on this album has to be the stark, Sky Fits Heaven which has a more hardcore effect. Complete with thrashing guirtars and bizarre, synchronised effects, the track is one of the most memroable recordings on the album. A far cry from the sweet pop sounds of Holiday and Like A Virgin!
The remainder of the album careers along at a leisurley pace. Outstanding is another mesmerising and hauntingly atmospheric tune, Frozen which Madonna delivers compellingly whilst The Power Of Goodbye is breathtakingly beautiful, delivered with a sensual and soothing performance from this unbeatable pop diva. The profound religious and spiritual undertones on the fantastic, Shanti, conveys Madonnas undoubted diversity as an artist. Only let down is the slightly forgetable Little Star, but apart from that, Ray Of Light emerges as her best album yet and was one of the most important albums of the 1990's. A masterpiece!
Ray Of Light (Madonna) February 12, 2006 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Albums from Madonna in 1990 wearn't what people expected, Like her "eroticca" album. However She had also had been doing soundtracks for "Who's That Girl" and "evita". In 1998 madonna teamed up with William Orbit to birng out her most religous album "Ray Of Light". It contains her number one "Frozen" and "Ray Of Light". other songs are "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" and "Power Of Goodbye".Other madonna albums you may be interested in Are "Like A Prayer" and "Confessions On A Dance Floor" Enjoy

I'd wanted to get Ray Of Light for ages as it had had such good reviews but I put off buying it because I didn't think I'd like it as much as Madonna's older stuff from the 80's and thought it would have been a waste of money. I wish I hadn't waited so long! I love Ray of Light so much I now find myself listening to it far more than True Blue, You Can Dance and Like A Prayer etc.My favourite songs are quite surprisingly not the songs which were released as singles. 'Swim', 'Skin', 'Sky Fits Heaven' and 'Little Star' are my personal favourites. Although I cannot forget to mention 'Frozen' and 'Power Of Goodbye'. All the songs are catchy, 'Skin' in particular really stuck in my head the first time I heard it. And 'Little Star' is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend listening to this album. The only Madonna albums I don't own now are 'I'm Breathless', 'Erotica' and 'Bedtime Stories'. Maybe i shouldn't put off buying these albums either!
