Rip Off July 12, 2007 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
As stated by others, this CD is useless. I bought it in a shop for a present and was apalled to find out that pretty much nearly all the "big songs" (i.e. "Cracklin' Rosie", "Sweet Caroline", "Song Sung Blue" etc) are all rubbish 1980s live versions - nowhere on the packaging at all does it tell you this. It's only really the very early stuff and the songs from The Jazz Singer that are the actual studio versions. Total rip off, avoid like the plague.
What a rip off! June 21, 2007 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I purchased this double CD off E-bay just a few days ago and whilst playing through it only today i find its total cr*p! I was about to write to the person i bought it from and complain about the amount of live recordings it contains 'cos i thought it MAY be a copy. I'm pleased i didn't embarrass myself, its not his or her fault...the CD is made that way! Sony should be ashamed of themselves for ripping the public off. It states, Neil Diamond Greatest Hits yes, but what it does NOT state is that a lot of the songs are 'live' recordings...not good! I'm just pleased i didn't pay a lot of money for it so i can live with it...just! Be warned if you're thinking of purchasing this album...don't say no-one told you so.
What a disappointment April 19, 2006 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
Read the reviews before you buy. The title is totally misleading. It mainly consists of barely tolerable re-recordings of his hits.
Disappointing, Neil July 14, 2005 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I had high hopes of this album as I am currently replacing my vinyl favourites. Unfortunately there are too many live versions on this album, and they are nothing like the original and certainly not as good. I should have read the reviews before I ordered! Record companies should be taken to task for this - at the very least they should make it clear which albums or tracks are not the original recordings.
A misleading album title April 26, 2005 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
The album title is a lie. A greatest hits album should contain the original hits, not re-recordings. Disc one alone contains nine live tracks out of the nineteen, plus studio re-recordings of several others. This would not be such a problem if the liner notes at least informed purchasers that certain tracks were live or re-recorded, but it does not. A complete disappointment. There are better Neil Diamond collections available, buy one of them and ignore this.
