Loved Angel Music Baby! July 26, 2006 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
Love Angel Music Baby is a cheerful, cheesy album. It has an upbeat, vaguely eighties pop sound. This isn't serious music, and it's not supposed to be. The Lyrics mainly concern Gwen's riches and blokes, but they're catchy and easy to sing along to.
the best way to describe this album is: good fun. The songs aren't meaningful, but they're entertaining. All of the songs have have their merits, but the most memorable are What'cha waiting for, Hollaback girl and Rich Girl. Basically, the ones she released, and if you liked those, give the album a shot.
The only tracks I would criticise are the annoying Long Way to Go, and pointless remix of What'ca Waiting For on the end of the album.
What exactly were you thinking??? July 21, 2006 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is one of the most failed, pretentious solo debuts I have ever come across!
What can I say, most people have said it all already! The tackiness and narcissism of her lyrics are indescribable, her music seems as if it was roughly programmed by a children's pc, her overall presence as if she was trying to impose her new arrogant self as the latest fashion. And there exactly lies the problem. It is more than likely that Stefani's arrogance simply derives from her belief that her ex-punk persona will help her not only get away with it, but make her look unique and 'uber-cool', thus bringing lots of cash. Only problem is, songs like 'Hollaback girl' and 'Bubble electric' don't make you look 'uber-cool', more like desperate to attract teenage audiences or adult fans that are simply musically illiterate and because of them, talentless bimboes like Jennifer Lopez, Paris Hilton and Beyonce Knowles (yes, and Madonna) that sing cheap vomitting 'songs' and think that dead animals are fashionable and luxurious became rich in the first place. Only thing is, Stefani was never one of the above, and the only thing that saves her from the comparison is her declarations that she is not a fur-wearing monster.
This ridiculous album also proves that for some people 'rock' is more of a fashion tendency than an identity, and this is obvious by the 'easiness' that singers are characterized as 'rock' because some of their songs have quitar inputs (take Shakira for example, who desperately wants to be 'rock' but also goes for the buck, ie hideous collaborations with Wyclef Jean and Beyonce Knowles). Rock artists don't sell their music and they don't design clothes! Enough with this joke already! Until the 80s american music used to be fantastic, how did it start polluting the world all of a sudden?
Anyway, this CD is just cheap. It's nothing but the a-bit-too desperate attempt of an over-ambitious woman to project herself as the new 'revolutionary' fashion icon of the decade, still, it can only be consumed by the naive and the stupid. I actually gave it away to charity.
Thumbs Up For Me April 5, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed listening to this album, it's very 'Poppy' and upbeat. It's hard to say what type of music this is on "Love. Angel. Music. Baby", it's a mix. Very different from anything I've heard from Gwen in the past and any other artist. I enjoyed it though. My favourite tracks are, "Crash", "Serious", "Danger Zone" and "Cool." My overall favourite though is "The Real Thing," the bonus track version. It's a very peaceful/loving song. Some of the songs I'm not keen on though like, "Harajuku Girls", "Rich Girl" and "Bubble Pop Electric." If anybody wants to try and listen to a different style of music, then this is the album to listen to.
Fun and Funky! March 23, 2006 I really like this CD. It is fun, lively and great to get ready to go out to.Loving it!
THUMBS UP, GWEN! December 25, 2005 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I've always liked Gwen Stefani and here's my review of the album:1) What You Waiting For? 5/5 A single we all know by her, it was a massive success and probably my favourite song by her. The 'tick-tocks' make it sound even better! Well done Gwen. 2) Rich Girl 4/5 not as good as the one before, but still quite good, a nice combination with Eve. A good, dance-to song. 3) Hollaback Girl 5/5 a great song with Gwen's distinctive vocals ringing thru. Another single, released 23rd May, it was a big success and another big success for Gwen. 4) Cool 5/5 one of my personal favourites, a beautiful ballad about Gwen's partner and how they turned into simple but good friends. The 4th single, it was released 29th August, and though it wasn't a massive success, it's still a lovely song. 5) Bubble Pop Electric 3.5/5 an interesting song about Gwen and her lover. A little odd, with dancing tunes and a bit of rapping. 6) Luxurious 4/5 the 5th and final single, out 5th December. Quite a cool song, the lyrics are very enjoyable and funny. Thumbs up! 7) Harajaku Girls 3/5 not a very well-made song, Gwen mentions 'Harajuku girls' all through the CD. Quite good, but very boring after a while. 8) Crash 3/5 an OK song that isn't bad or good. 9) The Real Thing 5/5 a song that I LOVE. Should've been a single, in my opinion. 10) Serious 3/5 not bad, not good, like 'Crash'. 11) Danger Zone 3.5/5 fairly good, Gwen's vocals are good on this one. 12) Long Way to Go 2/5 the weakest track on the CD, I don't like this song very much. A bad way to end the album. 13) Real Thing Remix 4/5 quite a good song, one bonus track. 14) What You Waiting For Remix 5/5 a GREAT song, just as good as the 1st. OVERALL: a brilliant album, 100/100. BEST SONGS: What You Waiting For, Hollaback Girl, Cool, Real Thing WORST SONGS: Serious, Long Way to Go, Crash A great cd, a must-have in my opinion!!!
