About time too! November 24, 2007 16 out of 18 found this review helpful
I have to disagree with SOG "SOG". Finally fans (well UK fans anyway) are given a proper Stones compilation, not the badly compiled Hot Rocks which was pretty US-centric and should never IMNSHO have been released in the UK. We had Rolled Gold (OK we had to wait till 75 but you see where I'm coming from). The original Rolled Gold had all the UK hits plus at least one track from each of the eight Decca studio albums. With other classics like Play With Fire, Mother's Little Helper and No Expectations added, it's great to have Rolled Gold back - this is long overdue!
Alright then ABKCO when do we get the first two UK albums?
She's a rainbow - bring it on! November 13, 2007 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
So the Sony Bravia people found my favourite ever Stones track and made that fab playdoh bunny ad. Why do most of my friends think She's a Rainbow is an undiscovered track??? I've been waiting for the original Rolled Gold to come out on CD for years. Hot Rocks and 40 Licks are OK but I spent half my time jumping the lamer tracks. And now here it is and with extras. I'm very happy and would recommend this as a good starter for 10. What I love is that most of these were released years before I was born and they still stand up today.
A Plea to Sir Mick November 8, 2007 3 out of 10 found this review helpful
A pretty good history of the Stones but there's a lot more early music they could still release. How many of this selection have older Stones fans got already? Most of them I bet.
Where are 'Stoned', the Poison Ivy EP, The Live EP (Got Live if You Want It?) The Five by Five EP etc?
End of whinge - back to the album.
Memorable and stimulating songs except for their version of Stairway to Heaven. You can feel the excitement they used to generate through the music and see why they led a lot of us astray. Definitely worth listening to. A good Christmas present for all and sundry.
Vinyl was Good November 5, 2007 3 out of 17 found this review helpful
I have had the vinyl of this for years and consider it far superior to 40 Licks. I was also disappointed with the sound quality of 40 Licks so this is another chance to let these classic tracks shine (my rating is based on the vinyl, the last star awaiting the sound quality).
Just one little warning, despite the description above, I don't see Stairway to Heaven on the track listing. In fact, wasn't that some other band? Now Led me see...
