WOW i feel dizzy January 29, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Ill be honest with u all. this albulm made me feeldizzy, infact its made me feel sick the first time i herd it. not because its bad, but it may be the UBER use of the tremelow bar of the guitar which makes the album sound at times like its being chewed by a GIAN CENTEPEDE who's only aim in life is to eat Shoegaze albums. On the plus side this a land mark albulm for the genre and is really nice. in fact with out the dizzyness it makes me want to own numerous kittens of cuteness and play with them as i listen to this album. in conclusion its a beautifal albulm which makes u feel rather dizzy because of or despite its genious. Bye Bye xxx

Not a hidden gem, a hidden diamond October 21, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
When thinking about whether to give this either a 4 or 5, I eventually was persuaded purely because how original and influential it was but how it still managed to combine some excellent conventional rock riffs.
Not normally a rock fan but this is probably the best guitar based album I have listened too.

Popular music, like cinema, is primarily an entertainment medium but very occasionally something comes along to remind us that it is also an artistic medium.
"Loveless" is one of those all-too-rare examples of music raised to the level of pure art. Almost entirely abstracted from the usual mix of guitar / bass / vocals / drums you would expect from a rock album, "Loveless" sounds almost like no other. Guitars pulse and sway and vocals become like instruments, almost lost in the the mix and mostly indecipherable. The result is mesmerising, hypnotic; it's music raised to another level of consciousness.
It comes as no surprise, then, that this album was conceived during the ecstasy-fueled rave scene at the turn of the decade between the 80s and 90s. Gone are the angular squalls of noise from previous releases such as "You Made Me Realise" and "Feed Me With Your Kiss", replaced by distortions of a softer kind, blissed-out, hazy, druggy. This album is "The Velvet Underground and Nico" for the acid house generation.
The word "masterpiece" is overused and applied to many works which do not deserve such status. "Loveless" is one which most certainly does.
Strangely Beautiful August 3, 2007 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
On the first listen, I think it is very easy to be put off by the wall of distortion and muffled singing on Loveless.
But you soon realise therein lies the beauty of this album, it flows from track to track like no other record I have ever listened to, so much so that I find it hard to distinguish between each song. A masterpiece.
