3 out of 5 stars Lacking.   June 23, 2008
Usher has come back to the charts with two great new, catchy singles with incredible beats: Love in this Club and Moving Mountains. This album is filled to the brim with similar-gender songs, however some of the tracks really do fail to deliver any sort of 'umph', and therefore this is where the three-star rating came in.

Maybe Usher should have stuck with the more club-like songs - yes, Love in this Club is a good song, but none of them will live up to the great single 'Yeah', which you seem to hear once or twice every day off some sort of radio now.

Yes, it's a nice album - but it feels rather sketchy and 'unfinished'. Here I Stand is worth buying, but do not expect the newcomer to be filled with great number-one hits all around. This album is good, but not great. 7/10 - that's 3.5/5.

Im sorry this album is a waste of time. I listened hoping to be impressed only to find all of the tracks on this are rubbish. Its a shame i have to actually give it a star as its jus not worth it. I noticed this deterioration in his music since Confessions. Only way he can make it back to my good side is if he releases an album of the same stature of 8701 (which is his best hands-down)

3 out of 5 stars King of R n B? Usher better watch his crown...   June 15, 2008

After being an Usher fan for many years, I am incredibly disappointed with his latest album. In comparison with Chris Brown's latest album 'Exclusive', 'Exclusive' is a far more superior album. I was hoping 'Here I Stand' would get better after a few listens, but most of the tracks don't do anything for me. A pretty average album from the King of R n B.

4 out of 5 stars Decent effort, a showing of maturity from usher.   June 15, 2008
After reading the other reviews I can understand both sides of the argument. Some fans are disappointed with his new style and the number of slow ballads over riding the usual club bangers usher was famous for. Yet alot of long term usher fans like myself really enjoyed this album, as we have seen him evolve into a proper rnb singer, not just a daft dancer/pop singer, he has put alot of soul beats into this album which is new from usher and his ballads are awesome.
But like I said I can realise the other argument, because I feel he could have replaced the first and last track with a few more upbeat club songs for the album to appeal to a wider audience.
As a massive fan of Musiq, Anthony Hamilton, Joe, brian mcknight, i like ushers new soul/mature direction and come on people do you think usher is gonna dance around like a 20yr old artist all his life, his vocals have improved imensely, so i believe this is a smart move because it will enhance his appeal to a more mature audience over the next 20 or so years.
so as a massive rnb/soul fan i recomend this, but if your a fan of talentless trash like chris brown etc... you may not like this
my fav tracks - this aint sex, trading places, what a man to do, moving mountains, here i stand, revolver,

4 out of 5 stars Usher - Here I Stand - the truth about it all   June 7, 2008

Progress - the thing we all aspire to realise but somehow forget to acknowledge. This is what Usher acknowledges in this release. He has grown, become a father, a husband but still has a passion to please his fans with great music and Usher sure does try.

I think this album is very good. I am confident that every song could be a single and do very well on the charts but there is a problem.

The good, each song is sung with Passion and Great Delivery, Usher bears his soul on the records - namely Here I Stand, Appetite, Best Thing, Before I met you and Moving Mountains; he is playful - namely Love in this club, Trading Places, This ain't sex, What's your name; he enjoys singing these ones - namely Something Special, Love you gently, His mistakes, what's a man to do, Will work for love and the Title Track Here I Stand (especially the bridge in this one, it's brilliant)

I know I covered most the album's tracks here but that is because each one is worth mention. Usher says in his covers notes that he listened to every recording in solitude and decided on which tracks should make the album, that has resulted in the good and the bad for the album. The good, every track is a single, should be a live performance to remember. The bad, the album doesn't flow. The tracks don't have a natural progression for a complete album. Each song conveys a different feeling in the listener and then the next one disrupts that listening mood and pleasure. I guarantee you, listen to every track singly before going to the next one and you'll see what I mean (They're good).

The direction needed was that he should have been constructed the album as a performance, to take the listener through the highs (only two uptempo tracks), lows, happy, sad, reflective, sensual and climatic moods that we all receive and enjoy from Music. I only hope he doesn't re-release this one as most other artists do with poor sales, it doesn't deserve nor require to be. Hopefully most people get this album (no synthesizers or voice box I might add), and I want Usher to work his butt off to perform and market this one as it should have been a classic but in today's market I think it's a stellar effort.

Support it, you'll enjoy it for the progression he is showing us again as an artists and bearing his soul as he did with Confessions. Oh yea... he can really SIIING, check them vocals!!

Peace y'all...til the next album review.
